Builders-PAC:We Are The Voice Of The Housing Industry

What is Builders-PAC?

The HBA Builders-PAC is the HBA's Political Action Committee.  It is HBA members like you uniting to support the best qualified, pro-housing candidates for local office.  With the increasing rules and regulations being imposed by different levels of government, such as building and zoning codes, our Association needs the political clout to make a difference in the election process.

Why contribute to the Builders-PAC?

Because you alone cannot influence local officials on issues, the HBA Builders-PAC provide strength in numbers.  Through Builders-PAC, we are able to pool our financial resources and direct them to political candidates who support our issues and who understand that home builders are simply responding to the legitimate demands of the free market.  The HBA Building Codes and Land Use, Environmental & Utility Policy Committees have had input on every major issue affecting the housing industry because we support leaders who believe in us.  We must continue to support these leaders, so that we will continue to have a voice in local government.

Who runs the Builders-PAC?

YOU do as an active member of Builders-PAC!

Who selects which candidates to support?

The HBA Builders-PAC Committee reviews candidates' backgrounds and their support for the industry.  Opinions of Association members receive strong consideration.  The HBA Builders-PAC is completely independent and bipartisan.  Candidates are judged strictly on their merits.

Why can't the HBA Builders-PAC use my dues money?

Builders-PAC is a state and local political action committee; it is therefore governed by rules and regulations established by the State of Ohio and not the Federal Elections Committee.  Federal and State law prohibits the use of a member's Association dues for the election of candidates to state and Local office.  Contributions from Builders-PAC may go only to individuals who are running for state and local office.  Those who do give do so voluntarily.

Are corporate contributions permitted?

No. Checks must be personal: Ohio's campaign finance laws prohibit corporate checks, and contributions to Builders-PAC are not tax deductible.

As an HBA member, your business goes hand in hand with the health of the entire local building industry.   Yet, you alone cannot influence local officials on the issues that can completely devastate your business.

The HBA Builders-PAC represents the industry's front line in the battle against poor zoning, impact fees, and unreasonable regulations.

The achievements of the HBA Builders-PAC are numerous.  It has been instrumental in securing the appointments of pro-housing individuals to public office.  The HBA Builders-PAC has been involved in many successful political campaigns and primaries.
