the Sales and Marketing Council (SMC)
The Sales and Marketing
Council promotes skill and professionalism in sales and marketing for HBA members. The
objective of the Council is to serve the building industry through educational services;
awards programs that showcase examples of sales and marketing excellence; and
sales and marketing support to HBA members, committees and councils. Many of our
classes and events lend themselves to all types of sales positions, not just real estate
agents! The SMC requires membership in addition to your regular HBA

Our newsletter, SMC Network is a bi-monthly publication distributed to our current

Events
Our biggest event is the Merchandising and Marketing Excellence awards (MAME). The 2007-08 event was held Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at
Tangier's on West Market St. Click here for highlights and winners.
Networking Events/Member Mixers are held several times a year at various locations. During networking events we hope you make connections and reinforce friendships in order to grow and strengthen your business.
Spring Member Mixer is scheduled for Thursday, May 8 from 5:30-8:30 at a NEW location, The Barley House. Click here for details and form.
HBA's October Membership Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15 at a location to be determined. Each year the SMC sponsors this meeting and is responsible for the evening's program/activities.
Holiday Gathering is scheduled for Thursday, December 4 from 5:30-8:30 at a location to be determined. Members and friends can enjoy food, holiday fun and doorprizes! Watch for details on a NEW location!
New
Construction Spring Preview took place on Tuesday, January 29 at the
Hilton/Akron Fairlawn from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. This event featured exhibits on lots and
developments available for 2008 building in Portage & Summit Counties, as well as
displays from HBA Associate members. Exhibitor space for Builders,
Developers, Realtors and Associates sold out and approx. 200 attended.
Education
Certified New Home Sales Professional class gives you a CSP designation after your name to show your training. No CSP courses are scheduled for 2008.
Building from the Ground Up is a short (3 hour) class about new
construction. It's great for people new to the industry and veterans alike. The 2008 class will be held on Thursday, June 19 from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm at a NEW location, Stillwood in Stow, Ohio. This class is approved for 3 CEUs in Real Estate and will be taught by Len Huddleston of Design

NEW COURSE! Green Building for Building Professionals. SMC is researching interest among HBA and SMC members in holding this 2-day course to work toward the NEW Certified Green Building Professional designation through NAHB. Watch for updates.

SMC membership is an individual, not a company membership. Your company, however,
MUST be an HBA member. For 2008, the SMC Membership Drive Slogan is "SMC - You'd be Fuelish Not To Join" Each member
that joins in 2008, and their sponsor, will receive a $10 prepaid gas card from Speedway
SuperAmerica.
